32 bitar:
http://search.microsoft.com/en-US/results.aspx?q=KB2685811&x=0&y=0

64 bitar:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2685811

Video Intercept error after JAWS installation, and system reverts to 4-bit color. 1/29/2009

Short Description:

Video Intercept error after JAWS installation, and system reverts to 4-bit color.

Problem:

On some ATI and NVIDIA series 8, 9, and Quadro video chipsets, the system reverts to 4-bit color when JAWS or MAGic is inserted into the video chain. Video Hooks may have downgraded on machines from Vista to XP. When the drivers for these chipsets are installed into Windows XP, they are not utilizing resources
properly.

Solution:

Increase the amount of memory used by kernel level applications so that the video chain can properly be hooked. This can be done using a registry file provided by Freedom Scientific:

1. Download the following VideoFix.zip file to your desktop.
ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/KnowledgeBase/VideoFix.zip

2. Use any unpack utility to unzip the file to a single registry file named VideoFix.reg.
3. Press ENTER on the VideoFix.reg file and follow the prompts to complete the registry change.
4. Restart your computer.

The VideoFix.zip registry file has been proven to work for many video cards and XP systems. It is not guaranteed to work for all. If this option does not work for you, step by step instructions on modifying the registry by hand are at the end of this document. WARNING: Freedom Scientific does not recommend making changes to the registry unless you are an experienced user and familiar with the registry. If you are unsure, do not proceed. Seek assistance from an experienced technician or contact Freedom Scientific Technical Support:

The registry can be modified as follows:

1. Press WINDOWS Key+R to open the Run dialog box.
2. Type "regedit" and then press ENTER to start the registry editor.
3. Press DOWN ARROW to move to Local_Machine and press the RIGHT ARROW key to expand this item.
4. Press DOWN ARROW to move to System and press the RIGHT ARROW key to expand this item.
5. Press DOWN ARROW to move to CurrentControlSet and press the RIGHT ARROW key to expand this item.
6. Press DOWN ARROW to move to Control and press the RIGHT ARROW key to expand this item.
7. Press DOWN ARROW to move to Session Manager and press the RIGHT ARROW key to expand this item.
8. Press DOWN ARROW to move to Memory management and press the RIGHT ARROW key to expand this item.
9. Press TAB to move to the list of values for this key.
10. Press DOWN ARROW to move to the value called "SessionImageSize" and then press ENTER to modify this value.
11. Type "10" then press TAB to move to the OK button and press ENTER.
12. Press ALT+F4 to exit the registry editor.
13. Restart the computer so that this change will take effect.

Changing the video resolution on a computer that has a display adapter with secondary video channel causes a system failure. (01/26/2006)

Short Description:
Changing the video resolution on a computer that has a display adapter with secondary video channel causes a system failure.

Problem:
Changing the video resolution causes a system failure (a "blue screen" error) with a page fault in a non-paged area. This is a limitation with the current implementation of Display Chain Manager (DCM) used for Windows Accessibility.
This is a problem recognized by Microsoft as a Microsoft DCM issue. The DCM team, comprised of developers from Microsoft, as well as several cooperating accessibility vendors, are working together to come up with an appropriate DCM solution. For more information about DCM, refer to the Microsoft article"An Introduction to Driver Chain Manager 1.0."

Solution:
There is no solution to this issue. If you want to change your screen resolution and are using Windows 2000 and XP, as well as an affected display adapter, you should quit JAWS before changing the resolution. If you need speech access to change the resolution, press WINDOWS Key+U to start Windows Narrator.
When you have finished changing the screen resolution, you can restart JAWS. For other operating systems, there is currently no work-around.

JAWS fails to install video hooks when using ATI video cards and the newer ATI Catalyst 6.8 driver. (09/21/2006)

Short Description:
JAWS fails to install video hooks when using ATI video cards and the newer ATI Catalyst 6.8 driver.

Problem:
Neither JAWS 7.1 nor MAGic 10.0 can successfully install video hooks when the system is using the ATI Catalyst 6.8 video drivers. After installing JAWS or MAGic, if the program is set to run first, the Freedom Scientific Video Intercept Manager dialog will continue to come up at boot, or will be presented upon launch of the program.

Solution:
This is resolved with a newer version of the Freedom Scientific Video Intercept driver, version 10.12.597.0 (or higher). Download and install the new video intercept driver from the link below, then reboot.
